David Caren – Editor & Founder

Previously a retailer, a record company executive and a music manager, David now holds down the most rewarding and challenging title of his career to date – the (nearly) ‘Stay-At-Home-Dad’ with an office at the bottom of the garden in the guise of a man-shed with electricity & broadband. Adopted by the rebel county through wedlock this Dublin native is dad to three wonderful & welcoming distractions.

 

Adam Brophy

Adam Brophy is an author, editor and psychotherapist. He just doesn’t know which he is first. He writes in the Health Supplement of the Irish Times every Tuesday and published his first book, The Bad Dad’s Survival Guide, in 2009. For corn, he offers a project management and editing service to publishers, and to stay sane he practises as a psychotherapist in the Cork area.

 

Brian Byrne


Brian Byrne has been writing on automotive matters for some two decades. He is the Managing Editor of Irish Car+Travel and also a motoring correspondent with many Irish regional and national newspapers as well as several national magazines. He has been a journalist for over 30 years, including a 10-year stint as a journalist and broadcaster with RTE. He is also a dad, and a long-distance granddad with two granddaughters in Australia.

 

David Coleman

David Coleman is a clinical psychologist, broadcaster and author. David has become well known in Ireland as the presenter of the hit RTE television series ‘Families in Trouble’ and more recently ‘Teens in the Wild’ both of which were enjoyed by huge audiences nationwide. David also presents ‘21st Century Child’, a landmark venture for RTE that follows 12 Irish families for six years from the birth of their babies. David is a weekly contributor to the Moncrieff Show’s parenting slot every Wednesday on Newstalk 106-108.

David is also a bestselling author of 'Parenting is Child’s Play' - a guide to raising children. He is also a contributor to the Parenting Section of the Irish Times.

 

Dr. Tony Foley


Dr Tony Foley is a GP in a busy family practice in Kinsale. A graduate of UCC, Tony worked in hospitals in Ireland and England before completing his general practice vocational training in Pembrokeshire, Wales. Since returning to Ireland he has pursued an interest in primary care dermatology and gained further dermatology qualifications from The University of Wales, Cardiff. He has subsequently acted as tutor for the dermatology
e-learning course.

Tony is also actively involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching of medical students and nurses in U.C.C. Men's health is his other area of interest. A member of the Kinsale Primary Care Team, Tony is also the HMA (Honorary Medical Advisor) for the Kinsale R.N.L.I.

 

Patrick Gallagher

Living an idyllic life in Co. Donegal, Patrick is a self-employed electrician by trade but is currently enjoying life as a house husband to his two young boys Sean & Mark where daily duties include the 3 H’s - Homework, Hoovering and Hot meals. An experienced surfer, Patrick has contributed to various extreme sports publications and overseas travel magazines.

 

David Kavanagh

David Kavanagh is a Systemic Family Therapist. He has written in numerous papers and appears on T.V. and radio frequently. He is well known to the press as the expert they call for commentary on sexuality, marriage, dating and relationships and it also a weekly guest on TV’3 ‘Sybil and Martin Show’. David runs the very popular Avalon pre-marriage course for engaged couples. He also works with couples experiencing stress in whatever form it takes. He is also a well-known dating coach and recently appeared on The Tubridy Show as a guest. David also specialises in helping single dads find that special someone. He is also the director of Avalon Relationship Consultants.

 

John Lowe

John Lowe is best known for his popular books on personal finance ‘The Money Doctor’, ‘The Money Doctor Finance Annuals 2006’, ‘2007’ & ‘2008’ (Gill & Macmillan) – the last two editions went to the number one bestseller position in Ireland (paperback non-fiction section). The 2009 Annual is currently available. John is a frequent interviewee and commentator on Irish national airwaves and amongst our print media and television. He writes for a number of magazines and newspapers including The Evening Herald, Irish Independent, and Irish Examiner plus provides regular commentary in Sunday Business Post, Sunday Tribune and Sunday Independent. From his “Making Money with The Money Doctor” column in the Sunday Independent came John’s 5th book entitled “50 Ways to Wealth” .

John is also a member of the National Union of Journalists. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Bankers and a member of the Life Insurance Association. John is also managing director and founder since 1999 of Money Doctor, the trading name of Providence Finance Services Limited, a fully authorised financial services company with offices in Stillorgan, Co Dublin. John is invited regularly to speak on personal finance to companies and organisations. The majority of his leisure time is spent with his family (three children), while in his spare time he plays golf (handicap of 13), music (has his own 6 piece band) and relaxes when he can! Andrew McCann

Andrew McCann is the Development Manager of the Fingal Citizens’ Information Service in North County Dublin. He is a regular contributor to local, regional and national radio and television across a broad spectrum of consumer rights issues. He is also the author of 'Know Your Rights', a handy and easy-to-follow guide for all ages, and is an essential reference in any household. 'Know Your Rights' is published by Blackhall Publishing, founded in 1997 and based in Dublin, Blackhall is one of Ireland's leading independent non-fiction publishing houses who publish titles for the general public as well as academic books.

 

John McHale

John McHale is sports editor of the Evening Echo Newspaper in Cork. He is a former Irish international basketballer and appears regularly on national radio and television, as well as local and regional radio stations, discussing the sporting issues of the day.

 

Paula Mee BSc., Dip Dietetics., MSc in Health Sciences., Dip Allergy, M.I.N.D.I.

Paula Mee, Nutrition Consulting was set up in 2004 and offers organisations and industry an extensive range of services in nutrition, product development, and marketing communications. As part of her working week she also operates a dietetic and weight management clinic in the Southside Physiotherapy Clinic in Foxrock, Dublin 18. Paula sees clients on an individual basis for various dietetic related issues such as weight & metabolic syndrome, coeliac disease, diabetes, gut / bowel problems, high blood pressure, cholesterol and heart disease, vegetarian nutrition and general food allergies and intolerances.

Prior to this, Paula was the Nutrition Manager for Superquinn. Previously she worked as senior nutritionist in the National Dairy Council and practiced as a dietitian in hospitals in Northern Ireland. Paula is currently on the board of Consumer Foods in Bord Bia.

Paula was one of the presenters of RTE TV’s Health Squad programme which ran from 2002 to 2006. She makes regular appearances on RTE's Afternoon Show and various radio programmes advising on nutrition and health issues.

 

Padraig Murphy


Formally of the popular RTE programme the Health Squad Padraig is one of the leading figures in the Health and Fitness Industry. He has spent 16 years at the cutting edge of the Fitness Industry in consultancy, management, personal training, lecturing and rehabilitation. Padraig’s portfolio includes personal training such stars as Samantha Mumba, WestLife and CNN’s Connie Chung, he has also held National Titles and represented Ireland internationally at World Championship level in Full Contact Kickboxing. Padraig also provided strength and conditioning programmes and physical therapy to national and international boxers, rugby players and yachtsmen.

Padraig has developed and presents a module in Trinity College Dublin on their Masters Degree in Sports Medicine and has been a regular guest speaker on conferences to Pharmaceutical and Health companies. He constantly updates his studies and became the first European to qualify as a Medical Exercise Specialist with the American Academy of Fitness Professionals and recently completed studies with the Poliquin Performance Centre, a centre that is responsible for 100s of medals, wins and personal bests for many of the world’s elite athletes. Padraig is also a dad to two young children.

John Nolan

John Nolan, a graphic designer and website creator, has recently become a stay-at-home dad, following a family relocation to his native Roscommon. John now spends his days looking after his 1-year-old daughter Hazel, and noting her most entertaining antics for articles on dad.ie and on his own blog, daddynolan.wordpress.com

 

Pól Ó Conghaile

Pól Ó Conghaile is a Dad, writer and journalist in that order. He is the author of That’s My Baby! and a regular contributor to the Irish Independent, Irish Examiner, Cara magazine and RTE Radio One. He lives in Greystones with wife Lynnea and their two-year-old daughter, Rosa, where current obsessions include mixed berry scones, Buzz Lightyear and undisturbed sleep.

 

Dr. Mark Rowe

Mark Rowe is a GP in the Rowe Creavin Medical Practice in Waterford City. He features regularly on local radio and has written articles for national and local newspapers on health issues. His particular interest is in men’s preventative health. Mark and the Rowe Creavin Medical Practice are currently establishing a health care campus and wellness centre in Waterford, accommodating doctors, dentists, dieticians, counsellors, and speech and language therapists. He is also the author of 'The Mens Health Book'.

Dr. John Sharry


Dr. John Sharry is a social worker, psychotherapist and life coach. He is the author of ten books in counselling and mental health including seven popular self-help books for parents and families, such as Bringing up Responsible Teenagers, Parenting preschoolers and young children, When Parents Separate - helping your children cope, Coping with Depression in Young People and the newly released Positive Parenting: Bringing up responsible, well-behaved and happy children as well as three best selling positive psychology books including Becoming a Solution Detective, and Counselling Children Adolescents and Families.

John is also the co-developer of the award winning Parents Plus Programmes (video based parenting courses ) as well as the Working Things Out Programme (a multimedia therapeutic resource for young people overcoming mental health problems) which are used extensively in services and schools throughout Ireland. He is a regular contributor to radio and the national media and  formerly a weekly columnist with the Evening Herald.

Dr. John Waterstone

Dr John Waterstone is Medical Director and Co-Founder of Cork Fertility Centre. The Centre provides a full range of assisted conception services for couples in the Munster region with fertility difficulties, and has been operational since 2002. A graduate of both the Science Faculty (Genetics) and Medical School of Trinity College Dublin - where he was a foundation scholar - Dr Waterstone’s career began at the Rotunda Hospital Dublin where he trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology before transferring to the UK to continue training at teaching hospitals in London. He developed an interest in Reproductive Medicine at the Hammersmith where he worked with Professor Robert Winston and Raul Margara. A research fellowship with John Parsons at the Assisted Conception Unit, Kings College Hospital followed. He was also an inspector for the HFEA in the UK.

Dr Waterstone continues to practice as a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and is currently based at Cork University Maternity Hospital and also has a gynaecology commitment at the Bon Secours Hospital Cork.
